Recycling is a very important part of our world but it has yet to receive the recognition required to push the program to wide spread acceptance. We still throw away and waste large quanities of material that could easily be reused or not produced in the first place. As costs of raw materials rise, recycling will finally get the attention needed.
Here are a few tips that can make a huge impact:
Start a Compost Program in your backyard.

Bring your own bags to the grocery store.
Buy an aluminum water bottle and refill from the sink (pennies vs dollars) (Potterybarn has them for $10.00 each, Amazon and REI slightly more)
Ride a bike or walk to the store.
Buy in bulk and refill your small containers or use old jars or other used containers.
Turn off lights when not in the room, get a programmable thermostat and put your electronics on a surge protector with a switch and switch it off when not in use (some items that are off still use 40-50% of the power needed when they are on!).
